Big Wins, Tiny Losses (But We Go On...)

📚 Hey! Time to win.

One of the things I promised myself that I would do differently was that I would never lead people on with false hopes, or tell them that succeeding as a professional creator was easy, or that it would just “happen.”

No, playing this business game at a high level is HARD, and I refuse to pretend otherwise.

I work more or less constantly (even though I love most of it), and I don’t always hit my goals. Like this week for example! It’s…not looking good!

Work is piling up, I’m behind on creative projects that should have been shipped already, and there are a ton of open loops that are weighing on my mind - and WILL weigh on my mind until I close them by completing the associated tasks.

But that being said…

I’ve been winning BIG lately too.

Not too long ago, I had Ali Abdaal share my book breakdown of Feel-Good Productivity in his newsletter, which sent a minor flood of new subscribers my way:

And just today, I had two calls, the results of which could BLOW UP my newsletter (and my business) and could end up being very profitable for me.

The first one I’m not sure I can reveal yet (it involves me writing a guest post for a very popular blog), the other was a call about growing my newsletter with highly targeted ad placements. I pulled the trigger on that one today, for sure. It was perfect.

I won’t go on and on about the wins and losses in my business, but I also posted a reel today on Instagram and it’s not doing that well! It’s kinda flopping, actually.

So yeah…

I don’t have a boss, I DO have a ton of freedom in my life and work (financial and otherwise), and a lot of GREAT things are happening…

But I experience wins and losses in varying forms each and every day, and I’ll never tell you that I don’t. Business is a ROUGH sport, and you have to be prepared for that if you want to compete at the highest levels, which I do.

I just wanted to share a little bit about what’s going on behind the scenes, and encourage you a bit if YOU’RE going through a rougher period in your business too.

Keep going. Persist. At the end of every night there’s a day, and at the end of every winter there’s a spring.

Another interesting day today, to say the least! Lots more to tell you about as things develop, but all in all, I LOVE the direction everything is headed.

You can’t win everything every day (if you do, you’re probably not challenging yourself enough), but you can stack up enough victories, one after another after another to get you pretty damn far in the end.

I don't think there will be a Competitive Advantage newsletter tomorrow - I was going to make this a daily thing, but for right NOW I’m just going to keep it at 3-4x per week. Just until the workload comes down a bit, I keep getting my systems working for me, and we’re back stronger than ever! Talk soon.
