Chuck Palahniuk's Murdered Father (And Other Faded Memories)

đź“š Hey, good morning! Time to win.

Today was a rest day - from virtually everything - so I’ll just drop in with two quick book recommendations.

I finished reading “People, Places, Things,” by Chuck Palahniuk today and it was one of the best things I’ve read all year.

He also wrote Fight Club, one of those rare instances when the movie was actually as good as the book.

I always say “never judge a book by its movie,” but I loved both versions of Fight Club, and if you’re a fan of Chuck Palahniuk as well, I think you’d really like People, Places, Things.

It’s an autobiographical essay about growing up in Portland (I’m already not making it sound as good as it actually is), the murder of his father, a vague memory of the time when his mother almost went through with her also-vague intention of drowning both her sons…

Vintage Palahniuk, basically.

But it’s also a mini masterclass in the art of writing and it’s just beautifully done.

Great way to spend your day off, minus all the murder and mayhem.

To balance that off, though, I listened to the audio version of The Laws of Lifetime Growth, by Strategic Coach founder Dan Sullivan, and I can recommend that one as well.

It’s not mind-blowing or life-changing or anything, but for the right person it could be. One piece of advice that stood out for me was:

“Always make your future bigger than your past.”

Maybe I should have made that the title of this post and not “Chuck Palahniuk’s Murdered Father.” But oh well, you’re still reading it!

That’s it for today though.

As always, at the bottom of this email I’ll lay out everything I did today to move closer to my Ultimate Vision. This is to keep me accountable and to show you that I’m working as hard as I’m encouraging you to work…

Super chill day, as you can see. Just some light coaching work, a little professional development work, a couple minor social posts…restful day.

For the rest of the night, I may watch a movie, do a bit of reading, then get a TON of sleep for tomorrow and hit the ground running.

Lots to do before the end of the month, and I’ve gotta keep my energy levels high!

So until next time…happy reading!

All the best,

Matt Karamazov
