Some Encouraging (Money) Math for Creators

📚 Hey, good morning! Time to win.

I was never much of a math guy, but this is my kind of math right here:

12 × 250 = 3,000

Okay, so what does that mean?

I’ll fill it in a little bit:

$12 × 250 = $3,000

That’s it. That’s all it takes to generate $3K/month from your online business. 250 people have to give you just $12, and you’re there.

I’ve said it before (and I’ll say again): very little about business is easy, online or otherwise. I want to encourage you, yes, but I’m not here to sell you a false dream of internet riches and passive income.

Most of my income is VERY active right now, and I work flat-out pretty much all day every day, with the occasional break to socialize with, you know, people :)

But it’s NOT impossible to find 250 people willing to give you $12 in exchange for something of value. I would argue that it’s even easier to find ONE person willing to pay you $3,000, but that’s a story for another time.

I was thinking about this today because I’ve had a few new signups to the Premium version of my other newsletter, The Reading Life, and it drove me to do the math.

250 people. That’s it. Or if even that seems out of reach, just 83 people at $12 per month will give you $1,000. VERY doable.

Right now I probably make less than $1,000 from The Reading Life (and practically zero for this newsletter!), but the internet moves fast, and you could absolutely achieve what I’ve done in 12 months or less.

And say you get your newsletter up to 10,000 subscribers, 250 people is just 2.5% of them upgrading to Premium. Again, VERY doable.

I was on fire today! Got an incredible amount done, and I’m just ripping it towards my goals for the end of the month. That said, I still need to step it up in several areas. Like batching content, for one. I need to be more efficient in my workflow, and my sleep hasn’t been the best.
