Steal this referral program tactic from me and use it to grow your newsletter like mad. Here’s what I’m doing:

For my other newsletter, The Reading Life, I’m donating $5 to First Book (a literacy charity) for every person who refers five or more people.

And $10 for 10 referrals…

And $25 for 25 referrals…

You get the idea. Beehiiv makes this super easy to set up (that’s a special offer link, by the way, that’ll save you some money), and what’s really cool is that there are these things called “Boosts.”

Basically, it’s a revenue source you can set up so that you can get paid for recommending other newsletters - about $1.50/referral is what I get right now.

Maybe you’re already getting ahead of me a bit here…

What I’m talking about is basically an infinite money glitch…except much of it I’ll be donating to charity…while getting paid to grow my newsletter, which is pretty insane. Goddamnit I love the internet!

Anyway, so people share their referral links with their friends (I just crossed 4,000 subs on that newsletter today, so I’ll probably get tons of people sharing)…

Those friends sign up to my newsletter, after which they’re recommended these other newsletters that I get paid for recommending…

Then I use the Beehiiv Boost revenue to cover the cost of the charitable donations…

And anything extra I pour right back into Facebook ads to - you guessed it - drive even more subscribers to my newsletter!

Before I go any further, yes, this is how I feel explaining all this right now:

But it all works. I’ll probably even MAKE money on the whole thing, but at the very least I’ll be helping First Book equalize educational opportunities for kids everywhere and growing my newsletter at the same time.

Which will help me attract partnership opportunities, advertisers, etc. Not to mention the increased sales volume from subscribers buying my book breakdowns, joining my paid community, etc.

This is about to get real wild, REAL fast, and it’ll be an exciting ride.

I still have sooo much work to do to get everything FULLY set up, get the rest of my business firing at the level I want it to, etc. But I like the idea of “doing well by doing good,” and this referral program seems to be a way to accomplish this!
