Goal Setting Tip: "Split Them Into Two"

YOUTUBE  đź“š THE READING LIFE  đź“š  PATREON

đź“š Hey, good morning! Time to win.

I spent the day setting my professional goals for May (after taking a few days off at the beginning of the month to recharge) and I made a change that you might want to adopt for your own goal-setting practice, assuming you have one.

It’s perfectly okay if you don’t, by the way.

But I’m going to assume that, if you’re signed up to this newsletter, you’ve actually got fairly LARGE goals and you don’t want to waste any time reaching them.

The change I’ve made was simply dividing them between what’s within my direct control and what is not.

For example, one of my goals this month is to get monetized on YouTube, for which I need to accumulate another 3,700 watch hours on my channel.

But I can’t FORCE anyone to watch my videos (I would if I could haha).

So, “Get Monetized on YouTube” goes under “Not Within My Direct Control.”

What I CAN do, however, is make more videos, and work to improve on the quality of those videos with each and every new upload.

Another goal is to fill up the 3 spots I have left for business coaching.

But again, I can’t directly control whether or not an entrepreneur/creator decides to work with me.

All I can do is, again, put out great work, keep an eye out for leads, reach out to people whom I think I may be able to help, and wait for inbound leads to come in too.

It might help you to approach goals in this way as well.

I know it can do wonders for your mental health, happiness, and overall life satisfaction.

Because the best you can do is, by definition, the best you can do.

We MUST do our best if we want to achieve great things in this world, but we also can’t let external events dictate to us whether we’re winners or not.

I’m feeling EXTREMELY optimistic about how May is going to go, which is interesting because of how much the end of April simply SUCKED.

But hey, I guess I don’t tend to stay down for very long.

One thing I’m proud of is that I didn’t get too down on myself - and certainly not for long. There were some personal things that were kinda kicking me around the last few days of April, but they couldn’t hold me down.

My optimism and drive remain undefeated.

It’s also strengthened my commitment to help OTHER people win, and I’m convinced that there are more people than ever who need someone to rely on, who wants the best for them, and is willing to extend themselves in a spirit of mutual cooperation.

If the world can’t keep ME down, then it sure as hell won’t be able to keep the BOTH of us down!

All the best,

Matt Karamazov
