One Step Back, Two Steps Forward

đź“š Hey, good morning! Time to win.

I’m finally taking my own advice and going to bed earlier than I have all month.

Back when I was being dumb (yesterday, and basically every day for the last 3 weeks at least) I would stay up until 4, 5, even 6AM working, even though I was way past the point of diminishing returns.

My “reasoning” - if you can call it that - was that I needed to get just a little bit more work done before I could go to bed, until the inevitable happened, which is that I would stay up until 5AM being ineffective and slow, I’d sleep until 1 or 2PM and miss my most productive morning hours, only to repeat the process again that night.

You can see how stupid that is - I can see how stupid that is - but it was a pattern that I just wasn’t breaking.

Until tonight.

It’s 2:09AM right now, and I am MINUTES away from turning in.

I’m also leaving some work undone, which I don’t feel great about.

Back when I was being dumb (see above), I would have just stayed up for the next 3 hours and gotten 45 minutes of quality work done.

But today, I’m going to bed NOW, I’m going to wake up in the actual MORNING, and when I sit down to do 3 hours of work tomorrow morning, I will ACTUALLY get 3 hours of work done in that time, not a measly 45 minutes.

Be smarter than me.

That’s basically what I’m saying here.

Try to recognize when you’re working past the point of diminishing returns, and be GOOD to yourself, for goodness sake.

I know you want to do quality work, and I know that you care about upholding your own standards and committing to excellence.

Well, sometimes excellence requires taking one step backward so you can take two steps forward.

Today was somewhat relaxing, but it became even MORE relaxing when I made the decision just a few hours ago to close up shop early today and get a good jump on tomorrow.

Instant sense of peace. Like it was DEFINITELY the right thing to do .

A few good things fell into place today as well, filling me with even MORE confidence that this is going to continue to be a great year for my business.

It’s only been this year that I’ve felt “successful” at what I do, and now I’m able to turn around and help OTHER people become successful online too. And that feels pretty damn good! Turns out I love teaching!

But hey, it’s now 2:22AM here and I’m going to bed!

All the best,

Matt Karamazov
