As I hope you know, I'll never try to tell you that my way is the best way, or that I know everything about running + growing a business.

Obviously I'm a few steps ahead of a lot of people, but MANY steps behind where I want to be. I'm still learning as I go along, just like you.

So I'm not going to tell you that organic content is THE best way to scale, or that paid ads MUST be used if you want to grow. The bottom line is...they both work. VERY well.

I use a combination of both, and your choice will depend on where you are with your business, what kind of resources you have at your disposal, etc.

I paused paid ads for the last little bit because I didn't really have the bandwidth to give them the attention they deserve, but I'm turning them back on this month. With a VENGEANCE. I'm not going to spend less than $1,000/month on ads ever again. My goal is to scale my paid ads to $5,000/month by the end of the year.

I'll keep you guys updated.

But my mentor Will is right (his book, How To: $10M is this month's Book of the Month). You can scale as slowly or quickly as you want with paid ads. It's like a faucet. It's completely up to you. Want more customers? Spend more on ads.

Too many customers coming through the door, threatening to derail fulfillment and lead to negative experiences/reviews? Scale back the ads and take care of the customers you already have.

The point is that you are in COMPLETE CONTROL when it comes to ad spend.

What's nice is that most platforms will give you generous amounts of ad credits to get you to spend more on ads. I've got this guy from Twitter in my inbox right now offering me a bunch of credits, and Google gives you something like $3,000 in ad credits if you spend that same amount within a certain period.

Alright, this was a long newsletter, so I'm going to land the plane here.

CORE LESSON:

Organic works. There are an unreal number of "internet millionaires" who've never run a paid ad in their entire life and who do just find.

Paid ads work. There are people out there who LOATHE creating and publishing organic content, and who'd rather just let Zuckerberg send them customers in exchange for cash.

Both work, both can make you UNREASONABLY successful, you just need to make your decision work for YOU.

This month has been insane, in ways both phenomenal and not so great.

Without going into too much detail, I’m feeling more than a little overwhelmed with everything there is to do, all the reading I have ahead of me, all the responsibilities of running a business, and scaling it for that matter.

And most of those things are going really WELL! So I don’t want to give you the impression that I’m complaining or anything (well, maybe just a little). But I guess what I’ll leave you with is that the life of a business owner is going to have periods like this, and that’s completely normal. You’re not failing (which is what I’m telling myself haha).

But no seriously, most business problems are solvable with enough information + effort + help, and I have complete faith in both of us that we can figure it out. The good thing is that I’m making more money than ever before, but I’m also feeling more time pressure, which obviously isn’t great. But we persist!

And always remember: even if no one else believes in you…I do.
