Look, most people just don’t make it. That’s the reality.
In business, in their careers, in terms of their goals…they don’t have the body they want, the income they want, the respect they want, or the life they want.
They. Just. Don’t. Make It.
But YOU are not “Them” - and even though it might be a tad egotistical to think this way (alright, more than a tad), you have to believe…you have to KNOW that you are exceptional. That you’re NOT one of the people who don’t make it.
In order to be successful, you have to believe - beyond a shadow of a doubt - that you are more deserving of success than virtually everyone else on the planet.
That does NOT mean that you’re intrinsically better than them. That’s not what I’m saying at all. And it certainly doesn’t give you a license to be disrespectful, rude, or dismissive of the people you come in contact with each day.
Be nice!
Especially if you’re in any sort of leadership position whatsoever.
The best leaders raise the confidence and self-belief of those they seek to lead. They don’t tear anyone else down to make themselves look taller. If you want to go deeper into the biggest mistakes leaders make, then I’d recommend a book like How to Suck as a Leader, by my friend Travis Dalrymple.
I’m talking about an INTERNAL belief. An internal knowing that shows up in all your external actions and behaviors. Even the way you speak and stand.
It’s an energy, a vital force, and looking around, you can tell that most people just don’t have it. Or they have a “fake” overconfidence, which is super easy to see through. You can tell they’re just puffing themselves up with hot air, or as my Texas friends like to say, they’re “all hat and no cattle.”
A lot of people will misunderstand what I’m driving at here, but I’m sure you’ll get it right away. You can hold two different, seemingly-contradictory ideas in your head at the same time and not get confused.
If you can do that, and if you can become an unabashed EGOTIST on the inside, then you have a chance at winning.
Core Lesson: Don’t be afraid to think that you’re better than your competition. On the contrary, you damn-near HAVE TO believe that if you want to give yourself a shot at the kind of massive success you seek.
