I’m a fairly introverted guy (at least most of the time), and so when I first started posting my book reviews and recommendations online, I found myself wanting to avoid getting comments and starting conversations.

Honestly, I just wanted to be “The Revered Expert from Afar.”

For whatever reason, I expected people to follow me and keep coming back just because I was sharing the most profound quotes from the oldest books, never mind the fact that I was showing barely any personality whatsoever, didn’t want to talk to anyone, and hated the word “engaging.”

I didn’t want to “engage” with anybody! I just wanted to do my thing, read my books, and watch the internet dollars roll in.

Well, as I found out, it doesn’t work that way. It’s called social media - you have to be social. You have to be an actual person - somebody that others can relate to and want to get to know on a deeper level.

This whole “Expert from Afar” shit doesn’t work. At least not when you’re first starting out. Andrew Huberman and the like don’t have to “engage” on social media to grow their audiences, but you and I definitely do.

Not only that, it’s actually more fun with friends! I found that out myself too!

I didn’t think I wanted to enter into conversations about books online, but turns out I was wrong about that too.

So my advice here is to dive right in and make friends wherever you go - people who will comment on your stuff, share your posts, and make the whole journey more worth it. In revenue, sure, but also in actual, real human connection, which is something I didn’t think I cared for, but it turned out I definitely did.

Didn’t sleep great last night, but still got it done. I’ve got 105 days left until a BIG milestone/goal that I can’t quite tell you about just yet. I know, I know, I’m being super secretive. It’s probably only exciting to me, but I’m giving the next 105 day everything I’ve fucking got, so we’ll see what happens. Maybe I’ll fill people in before then.

Tomorrow though, it’s warm outreach, writing, scripting, recording, etc. I’m getting a lot better with batch-creating content ahead of time, which is another massive time-saver I’ll be covering in more depth later on.
