📚 Hey, good morning! Time to win.
This is one of the foundational skills involved in self-discipline: having the ability to sacrifice what you want NOW in exchange for what you want MOST. Which, ironically, usually comes LATER.
What I want now is to read a book and go to bed, but what I want MOST is to write helpful posts for the community, set myself up for a productive day tomorrow, and ultimate achieve all my business and financial goals this year.
That means I can't pick up my book and go to bed yet. SOON, but not yet. I have to make sure that I've done what I have to do in order to get what I want most.
You can think of numerous examples yourself.
Wanting pizza now, but also to look spectacular with your shirt off later.
Wanting to have a drink now, but also to have a clear head in the morning, ready to focus and get down to business.
Self-discipline is activated inside the tension between what we want now and what we want most, and I'll never sit here and try to tell you that I always make the right decision.
But it helps to bring back to mind what you actually DO want most, so that it takes up more mental real estate than whatever it is you THINK you want most right now.
What we want now tends to crowd out everything else, but we can’t let it if we ever want to stand a chance of making the right decision.
What you want now screams at you, while what you want most is drowned out by the noise of what you want now.
The right choice is made when you silence the screams of what you want now and amplify the call of what you want most.

Big meeting, early today. Didn’t go to the gym, even though it’s usually arm day on Friday. Could be for the best as my bicep still isn’t feeling 100%, but still, I would have liked to have gone. Serves me right for scheduling meetings in the morning!

Early meeting tomorrow, so I’m going to bed. In a lucky coincidence, that serves both what I want now AND what I want most :)
So until next time…happy reading!
